An alien civilization on the brink of destruction captures the signal and plans to invade Earth. Meanwhile, on Earth, different camps start forming, planning to either welcome the superior beings and help them take over a world seen as corrupt, or to fight against the invasion. The result is a science fiction masterpiece of enormous scope and vision.

Perhaps it's merely the stylistic choices in the translation, but this book reads particularly stilted, and it does not add to the work. Indeed, Ken Liu has stated that he wanted to preserve the feeling of cultural disorientation with the translation, so made it deliberately more difficult to read. This would be forgivable if it added anything, but it really doesn't.

Much better than the TV series! I love the character development, and the science is solid. Kudos to the translator, also- the prose is exquisite. Cixin Liu is my new favorite sci fi author, by far.

One of the best science fiction novels I have ever read; up there with the best of Arthur C. Clarke, Frank Herbert, and Philip K. Dick.
