Ambassador Rigel, RIGA to her friends and associates is an artificial intelligence who, for all intents and purposes, looks and acts like a petite human female. She is far from helpless, though. RIGA is an investigator and assassin. She has access to every tool, weapon and device known to Empirum, and knows how to use them.

RIGA is assigned to a broker an alliance between Empire and Terran Empire, but things go wrong when she is targeted for assassination.

This book is extremely fun to read. The plot is interesting and quite unique, in that many of the main characters are AIs. Thinking that AIs are 'robots' is a mistake here. These characters move, react and associate with humans as one of them, not as an automaton. RIGA herself is indistinguishable from a human in every outward way. Only her mind and internal features would give her away. Many of her interactions with the human characters in the book are quite amusing as they develop.

This is a stand-alone book that will keep you thinking about the future, "if society continues to make computers more and more intelligent and able to act on their own initiative, we would be able to distinguish between AI and if there was no discernible outward difference?

About the author

I retired this year from a lifetime of running my own businesses and am now sitting in a rural hillside villa overlooking the Ionian sea. It's cold and wet in winter and blisteringly hot in summer. In between these extremes my wife and I work the land and cultivate crops to sustain our frugal lifestyle. We're not big spenders; enough to live on, a few luxuries (chocolate, wine, good food, friends), and an opportunity to live closer to nature giving us that feeling of connectivity. All in all it's a pleasant existence after a lifetime of trudging through the grist mill.

Now, we look forward to time to read, write and watch Netflix (in any order) and when my books sell, we celebrate a little. The monthly royalty cheques become the high point of the month and we decide if we can afford a new chainsaw, or a strimmer, or maybe the fencing needs repairing to keep the wild goats from eating our crops. The Island suffers from poor infrastructure, so we are often without water in summer and electricity in winter, but it's getting better every year. We manage.

In summer we are surrounded by guests, friends and family who come to share the abundance of Greek hospitality, the sunshine, sea, sand, and Mediterranean lifestyle. In winter, we're hard-pressed to get out of the driveway, most places are closed. Friends live a half hour drive up hilly tracks or goat paths that are as beaten and muddy as ours and we all huddle near the open fire and read our Kindles. Our semi-wild cats decide they suddenly want to be indoors and curled up and the wild animals get our olive groves and land back until the spring. The life of a writer doesn't get any better than this.

Enjoy my books and think of me in my Island retreat, where I use the time left to me to write what's in my head in a way that gives you a little of what I experience - a temporary escape from a reality that holds us down. ~ Tobias

Humanity’s complex relationship with technology spirals out of control in this first book of an all-new series from “the owner of the most powerful imagination in science fiction” (Ken Follett).

“How far ‘space opera’ has come! The Old Masters of sci-fi would admire the scope and sweep of Salvation.”—The Wall Street Journal

In the year 2204, humanity is expanding into the wider galaxy in leaps and bounds. Cutting-edge technology of linked jump gates has rendered most forms of transportation—including starships—virtually obsolete. Every place on Earth, every distant planet humankind has settled, is now merely a step away from any other. All seems wonderful—until a crashed alien spaceship of unknown origin is found on a newly located world eighty-nine light-years from Earth, carrying a cargo as strange as it is horrifying. To assess the potential of the threat, a high-powered team is dispatched to investigate.  But one of them may not be all they seem. . . .

Bursting with tension and big ideas, Peter F. Hamilton’s Salvation is the first book of an all-new series that highlights the inventiveness of an author at the top of his game.

Praise for Salvation

“Dynamic, multifaceted characters, strong mind-expanding concepts, and impressive flair for language [make Salvation a] rare celestial event. . . . One of Britain’s bestselling sci-fi authors has launched an addictive new book as the initial stage of what is sure to be an intriguing new series called the Salvation Sequence.”—SyFyWire

“[A] vast, intricate sci-fi showstopper . . . The journey grips just as hard as the reveal.”—Daily Mail (U.K.)

“Peter Hamilton just keeps getting better and better with each book, more assured and more craftsmanly adroit, and more inventive. [Salvation is] a bravura performance from start to finish. . . . Hamilton is juggling chainsaws while simultaneously doing needlepoint over a shark tank. It’s a virtuoso treat, and I for one can hardly wait for Salvation Lost.”—Paul Di Filippo, Locus

“Peter F. Hamilton is known as one of the world’s greatest sci-fi writers for a reason. . . . Salvation is well worth the effort and a great introduction to some good old-fashioned space opera.”—Fantasy Book Review

“Exciting, wildly imaginative and quite possibly Hamilton’s best book to date.”—SFX
