Filled with righteous rage, Dacian and Onja defend their newly liberated home from tabre attack. No longer hobbled by dreams of rys and tabre unity, Dacian crafts enchanted weapons and trains the rys to fight. Onja’s love fills his emptiness, and together they reach toward even greater magical powers.

As the rys and tabre clash, Onja’s faithful warrior Amar faces many challenges while raising an army for her. Can he dominate the Overlord of the Kez? Will Amar expose himself to the carnal charms of the Shamaness Loxane to gain a new ally? Can he give up his lust for Princess Demeda and ransom her to the Temulanka Tribe as his duty demands?

While he sows war across the tribal kingdoms, Onja also enthralls the savages of the Nufalese frontier and unleashes their brutal hordes upon vulnerable settlements. Desperate to defend his people, Cruce Chenomet and his comrades trade wenching and drinking for grueling battles. His passionate dalliance from the year before unexpectedly becomes a vexing relationship. Bombarded by threats both to his body and heart, Cruce quickly loses hope but keeps his courage as he confronts the savage storm.

About the author

I was born in Michigan in 1972 and grew up in Mount Pleasant. It's called the "Mountain Town" but there is no mountain and it's debatable about whether it's pleasant. They say it's a party town and based on extensive research as a young adult I can concur.

Because I always had the childhood fantasy of running away and joining the circus, I moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1995 and lived there until 1997. Those who only stay a week are wimps, but I will say that it's the second year in Vegas that wears you down. Then I realized the pioneers were trying to get to California, and Nevada was not the goal. So I moved to Chico, in Northern California and lived there until 2009. I miss Chico dearly and value greatly the experience of living in that enlightened realm (local government excluded).

My wandering has circled back and I'm currently residing in Battle Creek, Michigan. I think I adore the place, but that doesn't make sense. I'm still California dreamin' and fantasize about my return to the Golden State, but for now my existence within the post-apocalyptic Rust Belt is suitably fascinating. In 2000, I earned a journalism degree from California State University, Chico with the conscious ambition of becoming a fiction writer. With the rapid demise of the newspaper industry and journalism in general, novelist is not such a daft pursuit after all. It's not like I'm actually going to get a job that values my education. Luckily I'm cursed with the impulse to write in a popular yet competitive genre.

I consider writing a necessary activity that I enjoy. I have the most fun writing in the fantasy genre. I find inspiration in history. Placing characters in an elder fantasy world fascinates me and allows me to explore age-old notions of bravery when combat was often done face-to-face. Magic is another story element that adds to the pleasure of writing in this genre.

Since learning to read and write as a child, I always knew that I wanted to write novels. The Rys Chronicles, Rys Rising, and Werelord Thal represent the efforts of many adult years.

Courage only goes so far.

In this breathtaking conclusion to a fantasy series on Google Play, unleashed monsters born of cruel spells test the mettle of the sturdiest warriors. Soul wrenching chaos consumes the faith of thousands, and Nufal meets an awesome assault ignited by the raging power of love lost.

Dacian embraces Onja’s dark inspirations and helps twist the flesh of captives into powerful new beasts. While building a larger human army for his Goddess, Amar shrugs off an assassination attempt but then must lash out viciously after a vengeful attack against his lover the rogue Princess Demeda. His magnificent fortress continues to rise while he gathers all tribes to his supremacy. With his armies ready, he awaits Onja’s call to war and dreams of feasting upon the spoils of wealthy Nufal.

Threatened with a rys invasion, Cruce Chenomet hardens his body for brutal combat and labors to prepare his society to survive the onslaught of terrible enemies. The new fenthakrabi beasts magically conceived by his tabre allies disturb him with their unholy presence, but he remains devoted to Alloi, who has pledged to defend his people. Torn between his need to protect his secret lover and son on the frontier and his family in Kwellstan, Cruce struggles through ever worsening battles until he finally wagers his life against the most favored warlord of Onja.

PRAISE FROM READERS

"Everything is here. Magic. World building. Multidimensional character. Pathos. Conflict. I have read more than 50 books in this venue. Rys Rising is the only 5 star rating I have given." - Barnes & Noble review

"I was introduced to the series by a free book- that was for the rys chronicles - I read this book as a prequel and it fascinates me for the rest of the story.

In case you missed it there is a corollary to our world and society. Disturbing to think about.

Loved the book. Love the series!" - Barnes & Noble review

"You will hold your breath, gulp, and shed a small tear. Falbe doesn't hold back at all! The first chapter starts out with a serious battle. How can you not get hooked?" - Amazon review

"I thoroughly enjoyed the depth and development of the characters.. the unique storyline and the fact it is a true novel not a 200 page attempt to get me to buy the next in the series... I look forward to reading every single one of this authors books!" - Amazon review

Rys Rising and its sequels create a completely published series similar in style and scope to Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin, except everything comes together into a big conclusion. The series deals with themes of politics and religion as well as personal ambitions. The concept of humans existing as the pawns of magical creatures forms the foundation of the story.

Fans of the author have compared Falbe's work to best-sellers such as Robin Hobb, Terry Goodkind, Peter V. Brett, and Brandon Sanderson.

Regain the wisdom and creativity of our ancestors who were experts at whipping up something special with tight budgets and limited supplies. You may not be able to find the “10-cent bag of marshmallows” anymore, but modern cooks can still benefit from this collection of 1920s vintage recipes collected by my late Grandmother. In 2012 I discovered her handwritten recipe notebook from 1926 and developed this cookbook.

While updating the directions for modern cooks, I maintained the vintage charm of her original notes. Generations ago people did not have a bunch of fancy ingredients, but they still came up with a variety of yummy quick breads, cakes, desserts, pies, salads, main dishes, canning recipes, and fruitcakes. This cookbook has a special emphasis on fruitcakes. I share my mood-altering experiences with her fruitcake recipes. Bakers who love the holidays should definitely add a classic Christmas fruitcake to their list. All jokes aside, fruitcake deserves a place among elite holiday desserts.

And people into urban farming and homesteading can harvest delicious value from these vintage recipes meant to use up all the dried fruit and nuts you can pick. Plus find a variety of classic uses for all the tomatoes, cucumbers, and apples you can grow with marvelous canning recipes for sauces, pickles, and chutneys.

My Grandma’s name was Edna Oldershaw Irwin and her recipes reflect the character of the food in 1920s Canada where she grew up in Chatham, Ontario. After months of effort, I’ve prepared 64 of her recipes for publication. I no longer have my Grandma, but I still have her cookbook and now you can read it too.

Enjoy trying out these vintages recipes in a cookbook inspired by Canadian heritage. Most of them are very simple and surprisingly tasty.

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Family secrets come back to haunt Jack Reacher in this electrifying thriller from “a superb craftsman of suspense” (Entertainment Weekly).

Jack Reacher hits the pavement and sticks out his thumb. He plans to follow the sun on an epic trip across America, from Maine to California. He doesn’t get far. On a country road deep in the New England woods, he sees a sign to a place he has never been: the town where his father was born. He thinks, What’s one extra day? He takes the detour.

At the same moment, in the same isolated area, a car breaks down. Two young Canadians had been on their way to New York City to sell a treasure. Now they’re stranded at a lonely motel in the middle of nowhere. The owners seem almost too friendly. It’s a strange place, but it’s all there is.

The next morning, in the city clerk’s office, Reacher asks about the old family home. He’s told no one named Reacher ever lived in town. He’s always known his father left and never returned, but now Reacher wonders, Was he ever there in the first place?

As Reacher explores his father’s life, and as the Canadians face lethal dangers, strands of different stories begin to merge. Then Reacher makes a shocking discovery: The present can be tough, but the past can be tense . . . and deadly.

Praise for Past Tense

“Child is one writer who should never be taken for granted.”—The New York Times Book Review

“[Lee Child] shows no signs of slowing down. . . . Reacher is a man for whom the phrase moral compass was invented: His code determines his direction. . . . You need Jack Reacher.”—The Atlantic

“Superb . . . Child neatly interweaves multiple narratives, ratchets up the suspense (the reveal of the motel plot is delicious), and delivers a powerful, satisfying denouement. Fans will enjoy learning more of this enduring character’s roots, and Child’s spare prose continues to set a very high bar.”—Publishers Weekly (boxed and starred review)

“Another first-class entry in a series that continues to set the gold standard for aspiring thriller authors.”—Booklist (starred review)

“With his usual flair for succinctness and eye for detail, Child creates another rollicking Reacher road trip that will please fans and newcomers alike.”—Library Journal (starred review)
