About the author
Co-author Travis Townsend is a Founding Partner of the law firm of Townsend & Lockett, LLC, in Atlanta, Georgia, and heads its business law, corporate and securities transactional practices, and is Managing Consultant with Torinity Consulting Company. Travis is also an Adjunct Professor at the Emory School of Law in Atlanta, Georgia.
Outside of the professional arena, Travis serves as Director of Economic Development of the National Black MBA Association Atlanta Chapter, is a member of the 100 Black Men of South Metro (Atlanta) where he volunteers on the Education Committee, serves as President of MAFDET, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and is a Member of the Board of Directors of the Serenbe Institute for Arts, Culture and the Environment. Travis has served in numerous leadership positions with the National Urban League Young Professionals, including as its National Programs Chair, and has been a Big Brother volunteer for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Atlanta. In 2017 Travis was a Candidate for Mayor of the newly formed City of South Fulton, Georgia.
Travis is a frequent speaker at professional and community events and conferences, is a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and is co-creator of the When the Cops Come Knockin’: An Illustrated Guide to Criminal Law criminal law literacy movement and education series.
Travis earned his B.A. in Psychology from the University of Michigan School of Literature, Science and the Arts in 2000 and received his J.D. from the University of Michigan School of Law in 2003.
Co-author Trinity Townsend is an educator turned attorney. Formerly a high-school Civics and History teacher, Trinity now considers numerous cases of varying subject matter, makes ruling recommendations, and prepares legal orders as Staff Attorney in the chambers of Honorable Judge Eric Richardson, Superior Court Judge for Fulton County. Trinity began his legal career at the law firm of King & Spalding in Atlanta where he worked on employment cases involving age, gender and racial discrimination, complex tort litigation, and other legal matters.
As Director of Product Development, Trinity oversees the development of Torinity Consulting Company’s When the Cops Come Knockin’ products series, and is a Consultant in its program development services department.
He volunteers with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Atlanta and has helped plan and organize King & Spalding’s “Absolutely Incredible Kids” charitable program. He has also provided pro bono services representing clients in wrongful eviction mediation and has participated in Habitat for Humanity’s Wills Project—drafting wills for elderly and low-income individuals. Trinity is a member of the Atlanta Bar Association, the Gate City Bar Association and the 100 Black Men of South Metro (Atlanta) where he serves on its Rights of Passage Program Committee.
Trinity earned his Bachelors Degree in Education from the University of Michigan School of Education in 1997 and received his J.D. from the Emory School of Law in 2006.
