In the book ‘Doorchi Mati, Javalchi Nati’ (Distant Soil, Close Bonds), author Umesh Kadam has eloquently expressed the opportunity he gained to connect with people of Indian origin living abroad and those accustomed to a foreign lifestyle—an experience that transcends words. This narrative offers insight into how a long journey—which began with securing a Commonwealth Scholarship for the postgraduate program in International Law at the renowned London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE)—evolved from mere acquaintances or connections made through others into a close, personal bond.
Umesh Kadam has written eleven novels & short stories also. He holds LL.M., M.Phil. (Education), Ph.D. (International Law) from Shivaji University, Kolhapur; LL.M. in International Law from University of London and Diploma in International Law from Aristotelian University, Thessaloniki, Greece. He taught international law from 1980 to 1998 in various Indian law schools and colleges. In 1998, he was invited by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to work as Regional Legal Adviser. He worked for the ICRC for twenty years in South Asia, South-East and East Asia, and East Africa. Since his retirement from the ICRC in 2018, he has been working as a Consultant for some international agencies and as a Visiting Professor of International Law in some Law Universities.
