About the author

V.N.A. Naikan (Ph.D., Reliability Engineering) is Associate Professor, Reliability Engineering Centre, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. Earlier, he worked with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Trivandrum (Kerala), IIM Ahmedabad, the China University of Hong Kong, and Union Carbide (India). Dr. Naikan has published/presented about 60 technical papers in international journals and conferences and contributed a chapter on statistical process control (SPC) in the Handbook on Performability Engineering (Springer, 2008). He has organized many short-term courses in reliability engineering for working professionals and was the Technical Chair of the first, the second, and the third International Conference on Reliability and Safety Engineering (INCRESE), held in 2005, 2006, and 2007, respectively.
