《社區打帶跑》是作者台灣社區工作二十年的經驗集錦。黃肇新二十年來參與教會及政府不同部門的社區政策規劃與執行，從學者、社區伴行者和宗教信徒三種位置寫作，見証了跨世紀以來台灣官方社會行政、文化行政及基督宗教收編或運用社區的各種作為。
這本書與宣稱客觀的學術研究作品不同，它是作者從經驗出發的個人觀點，有時像唐吉軻德般與風車對峙，有時像酸民一樣對著官方及宗教立場的社區工作嚷嚷。對於制度化及教條化的社區工作感覺不以為然者，或許能在本書找到一些共鳴。
