About this ebook

A New York Times Bestseller!
A Publishers Weekly Bestseller!

A year has passed since the Tournament. Fletcher and Ignatius have been locked away in Pelt's dungeons, but now they must face trial at the hands of the Inquisition, a powerful institution controlled by those who would delight in Fletcher's downfall.

The trial is haunted by ghosts from the past with shocking revelations about Fletcher's origins, but he has little time to dwell on them; the graduating students of Vocans are to be sent deep into the orc jungles to complete a dangerous mission for the king and his council. If they fail, the orcish armies will rise to power beyond anything the Empire has ever seen.

With loyal friends Othello and Sylva by his side, Fletcher must battle his way to the heart of Orcdom and save Hominum from destruction . . . or die trying, in this sequel to The Novice by Taran Matharu.

I.. I'd curse to emphasize just how much I love this series, but I cannot. My only regret in reading this is that I have to wait for a few months for the 3rd book to be released. I can't believe this is only about 360 pages. It felt like a thorough 1,000 page book, in a very, very fantastic way. Pacing was great. Story is wonderfully satisfying to take in. Much of the events were predictable, but I enjoyed correctly guessing what was to come. The dynamics of the characters and their interactions with each other: splendid. I can't say enough about this series. I'm sure some will cite Game of Thrones or something to compare it with; I've no idea on the matter. This is my first venture in fantasy fiction in a long time, and my interest is piqued and utterly starving for more. Thank you, Matharu.

The storyline remained interesting but it was a bit hard to go through. It got slow but the ending left me wanting the last book. Still love the little Salamander. Was super excited he was at least able to reunite with his mom, albeit she's mentally destroyed.
