I am a hug Jane Austen fan. I love all of her books. I like Persuasion because of the 'soap opera' effect it has. There is the main theme of a love that has been held or put on hold, but will win out in the end. Along the way we get some backgrounds of other characters, some secrets and deception, and some inter-family drama. I get wrapped up every time. I believe many modern writers who attempt this same type of multi-dimensional story-telling (and who do so quite well) owe Miss Austen their thanks for helping to pave the way. But hey, I'm just one person with one opinion.

The ending was a bit disappointing (though still good). It seemed that the ending was a bit rushed sure to the fact that Miss Austen write the book during her race against death. With they said, it's still very much worth reading

The last book that Jane Austen wrote, and it has a different tone that makes me wonder what she would have written after if she had the chance. Of the Austen novels I've read (S&S, P&P, and Emma), this is the only one that isn't about a very young woman's first love. Instead, the main character is 26 or 27, and her first love was eight years ago. When he reenters her life, her feelings for him return, but he has definitely moved on. This book has a more subtle humor than her others; in the past there was always at least one character who would be utterly ridiculous, but in this book the ridiculous characters are more believably so, and are antagonists instead of laughable. Overall, like all Austen novels, a must-read if you like 19th century novels.
