This biography of Justin Welby, the 105th archbishop of Canterbury, traces the story of his life and ministry from his earliest years to the eve of his enthronement in March 2013. It examines his conversion to Christianity as a student at Cambridge University, his career as a treasurer in the oil industry and his meteoric rise through the ranks of the Church of England – as a rector in Warwickshire, director of international reconciliation ministry at Coventry cathedral, dean of Liverpool and bishop of Durham. Based on extensive archival research, and interviews with the archbishop’s friends and colleagues, this study analyses his formative relationships, leadership style and priorities for the church. It highlights Justin Welby’s passion for evangelism, reconciliation and risk-taking, which mark a change of direction for the Anglican Communion.

“The God I Love is the book that captures my heart and thoughts in the events, dialogues, memories, images, and scenes of my life—my walk with God.”—Joni Eareckson TadaJoni’s name is synonymous around the world with the words “loving God.” She has lived out these words since the diving accident thirty-six years ago that left her paralyzed from the shoulders down. Now in The God I Love she looks back on the whole of her life through eyes that can see how that accident actually moved her in a new direction, saving her from another tragedy of her own making. This story-driven narrative captures the events and images of Joni’s remarkable life as she describes her life in six themes. She begins with her life as an ordinary girl who is blessed by an extraordinary God—but not without tragic turns. Then she ponders the question, would she have been an artist if she had not broken her neck? She recognizes that through prayer she enters into God’s holy presence and finds that he answers her prayers in full measure. She acknowledges that it is only through the kindness of friends that she has bathed or eaten or done the countless simple tasks that make up everyday life. Because of her unusual situation, her wheelchair has rolled onto platforms around the world where millions of people have heard her speak about her Savior. Through tragedy Joni has come to know God, the living, surprising, wonderful Lord of all.A note from Joni—The God I Love is a memory still unfolding of the journey that keeps taking me deeper into the heart of my Savior. It’s my prayer that this story, which spans over fifty years, will resonate with each person who takes time to pick up the book...it’s my prayer that The God I Love will serve as a roadmap, a guide, a signpost to light the journey of each reader, helping them to see their sweet, soft desperation of Jesus, too.
Evangelicalism, an inter-denominational religious movement that has grown to become one of the most pervasive expressions of world Christianity in the early twenty-first century, had its origins in the religious revivals led by George Whitefield, John Wesley and Jonathan Edwards in the middle decades of the eighteenth century. With its stress on the Bible, the cross of Christ, conversion and the urgency of mission, it quickly spread throughout the Atlantic world and then became a global phenomenon.

Over the past three decades evangelicalism has become the focus of considerable historical research. This research companion brings together a team of leading scholars writing broad-ranging chapters on key themes in the history of evangelicalism. It provides an authoritative and state-of-the-art review of current scholarship, and maps the territory for future research. Primary attention is paid to English-speaking evangelicalism, but the volume is transnational in its scope. Arranged thematically, chapters assess evangelicalism and the Bible, the atonement, spirituality, revivals and revivalism, worldwide mission in the Atlantic North and the Global South, eschatology, race, gender, culture and the arts, money and business, interactions with Roman Catholicism, Eastern Christianity, and Islam, and globalization. It demonstrates evangelicalism’s multiple and contested identities in different ages and contexts.

The historical and thematic approach of this research companion makes it an invaluable resource for scholars and students alike worldwide.
