Thank you so much Google. Not for this book. This is a good book for beginner's photography through an Android device. No, thank you for creating a way for people to moan and groan about something inane and useless. These people are giving one star to this book because they disagree with something UNRELATED to it. That's a failure of the Turing Test right there. It would be great if the Play Store had a spam filter for ratings. Anything with "credit card" in it would be thrown out here, including this review. Civilian casualty. But anyway, about this book. It's good. Good for devices that use stock Android, rather than a manufacturer's custom one. Not much will fix the Galaxy Nexus' terribly grainy camera, though. At least they'll look less terrible. 4* for the book, 1* to throw a thimbleful of water in the raging forest fire of stupidity.

I don't have a lot of experience with photography, and like most people end up taking impromptu pictures with my phone that are of mediocre quality at best. This book is an extensively good resource for determining what settings are available, how they will affect the pictures you take, and what tools are available on the phone to edit the photos. And you can't argue with a price of free*. *Apparently some reviewers here can argue with a price of free. Chalk it up to inexperience with getting free media (books, music, movies) through the Play Store. Having the pop up with a cost of $0 is par for the course.

Let me start by saying that this is sold by google through the play store and like anything that you get from the play store, your card is processed by google. Since there would normally be a charge for this book and it's being offered free for a limited time the order still has to be processed. If you haven't ever purchased something through the play store, you'll need to have a card (credit, debit or play store gift card) on file even though there is no charge for the item. It's simply how the store is set up. If you don't like it then crawl back into the dark ages where you don't buy anything online and stop whining about the card or balance requirement. There is nothing at all false or sneaky about this book that is being offered free currently. This book covers all of the basics for taking and editing photos on your android device and is a great way to jump into more than just making calls and sending texts. Easy to follow along with just enough detail if you're new at this. Even if you do already take pictures with your android then this can help you get into some of the more advanced options.
