Kate knows what it’s like to lose someone. But having lived her entire life on planet, she can’t understand why Sam would want to sell her escape to the stars. It feels like incredibly good luck when the slightly surly captain agrees to assemble a new crew and take her up for one final job.

But when they end up kidnapped by a space mobster and forced to track down the same pirates that killed Sam’s former shipmates, it’s starting to look like retirement might be permanent for them both.

Ratings and reviews

I loved the personalities! The author’s knack for capturing humour had me giggling along with a healthy dose of snark and sarcasm that made the characters feel very real. The female crew were an absolute delight- a mishmash of personalities that played off each other in the most charming way. I’m not an avid sci-fi reader but don’t let that stop you- at its core The Ship is a found family story full of adventure, romance, secrets and danger, all wrapped up in cool space tech! A worthy read!

About the author

C.E. Ricketts studied Literature at SUNY Purchase, with a focus in medieval grail stories. Who doesn't like a good story about a knight meeting another rando knight in the forest, kicking his ass, only to realize later it's his third cousin twice removed?

When she's not jaunting through the sixteenth century, Christine is reading and writing about dragons and spaceships, though usually not at the same time.
