About this ebook

This is an intense page-turner, a gut-punch twist-filled story about a woman who has confidence in herself, believes she's a good judge of character, and has filled her life with people she can trust. She's right, but she's also very, very wrong. Readers will have a time of it trying to decide who to watch closest.

Hard Focus
Where do you place your trust when your own instincts betray you?

Connie Rowe is a receptionist at a respected legal firm. She’s a little bit sassy, a lotta bit happy, has good friends, and is adored by her neighbors.

Life is good.

She’s got a boyfriend she enjoys spending time with. He can be a little intense, but he’s got a lot going on in his own life, sorting out his young daughter and nightmare of an ex.

Life is grand.

“Trust your gut.” That’s what Connie’s police officer father told her often, training his daughter to believe in herself through the years.

But … what happens when you can’t? When your intuition lies?

What happens when things come into Hard Focus?

Early reader feedback:

"Hard Focus was totally edge-of-the-seat, what shoe is about to drop next!"

"Made me really ponder how well you know someone, and how someone can screw up your gut instinct."

"[deMora] can write about anything and her characters come alive."

"This is really really good. I'm supposed to be <working> but they can wait."

"It is a great story. Definitely one I wanted to read straight through."

When I read the introduction to the book stating there was an incident that encouraged the author to write this book I thought ok this is going to be interesting. Boy was I right. This author writes a great story that even with the subject matter doesn't end up being brutal and hard to read. Nope this story mostly dealt with the impact the violence has on those that have been victimized by rape and what may be the result of it. This is a great read and while it did have it's emotional side it was not dark and dreary. The subject matter can be intense and this author also gives us staggering statistics in the afterwords. I won't get on this soap box because this is about the book not justification. Cole watched her every time she came and couldn't understand what reason she would have for staying with him. He was one of his sisters protectors and even if he hadn't been there to protect her before he would now. This is a great book for many reasons but Cole and Connie each play a vital roll in the outcome. Connie is strong and self-reliant, independent and she thought a good judge of character. She finds herself in the middle of a mess she wouldn't wish on her enemies but one she wont back down from. Awesome read for many reasons. Find out for yourself why changes need to be made and hard focus placed where it hasn't been before.

About the author

Raised in the south, Wall Street Journal and USA Today Bestselling Author MariaLisa deMora learned about the magic of books at an early age. Every summer, she would spend hours in the local library, devouring books of every genre. Self-described as a book-a-holic, she says "I've always loved to read, but then I discovered writing, and found I adored that, too. For reading...if nothing else is available, I've been known to read the back of the cereal box."
