Sorry but this book missed the mark. It was disappointing in all areas. The original author had a brilliant trio of books which we all adored. He had 10 books in all which his mate of many years could have continued writing after his untimely death. That she was not allowed to continue his work is a travesty and now we are left with a disappointing mishmash. I pray that someway they can go back in time and allow his significant other to continue the original authors work? She is a published author and is more than capable to do so! Family dynamics have caused a rift and his fans will suffer for it!

This book took me over a year to finish, and I had loved the original series. Lagercrantz took a stab at writing like Stieg but he fell immensely short from the bar. The story took so long to build up and he kept jumping from one character to another. It was hard to remember everyone! Only the last 100 pages did he pick up the pace, and still Lagercrantz took 20+ pages to resolve the book. Pretty disappointed, but it's hard to mimic another author, so I'd give him points for that effort.

Lagercrantz's continuation of the Millennium saga definitely brings the characters back to life, but some of the charm is absent. I felt a warm sensation when I completely understood the author's mentions of recent technology that felt extremely relevant to my personal interests, such as RSA encryption, artificial intelligence, algorithms, quantum supercomputers, and Marvel mythology. However, sometimes, that content is layered too thick and felt too sensational at times. Lagercrantz succeeds at bringing Salander and Blomkvist back into the spotlight of modern Swedish fictional crime literature. The book reads well and constantly tempts you to read through the next chapter, but some aspects of the novel just didn't thrill me to the very last page like Larsson's works did. It felt like there were thirty to forty pages devoted to wrapping the story up after the action ended. I almost wanted to be left with a cliffhanger like I felt between the first and second novels in the Larsson series. With all that being said, I am still looking forward to Salander's next adventure under Lagercrantz's pen.

DAVID LAGERCRANTZ is an acclaimed Swedish journalist and author. He has worked as a crime reporter for Expressen, and has written several novels, including the forthcoming Fall of Man in Wilmslow. He worked with international soccer star Zlatan Ibrahimović on his memoir, I Am Zlatan Ibrahimović, which was short-listed for the William Hill Sports Book of the Year award and was nominated for the August Prize in Sweden.
