Energy is important for the survival of life forms on earth. While energy exists in different forms, fossil fuels, one of the forms of energy source, have played an important role in the history of human development. The widespread use of fossil fuels has severely affected the environment. Climate change and global warming, the outcome of the extensive use of fossil fuels, have forced us to reimagine a fossil fuel-free earth. To save the planet earth, scientists are urging humans to make efforts to contain the rising global temperature below 2°C by reducing emissions from fossil fuel.

Energy and Environment discusses various forms of energy. It examines environmental impacts of energy generation and how non-renewable sources of energy contributes significantly to environmental pollution. In the book the role of renewable energy sources in mitigating global problem of environmental pollution is also discussed at length. It also elaborates on storage of energy, an important subject, in the context of rising energy demands of the present world.

By looking backward at the course of great extinctions, a paleontologist sees what the future holds.

More than 200 million years ago, a cataclysmic event known as the Permian extinction destroyed more than 90 percent of all species and nearly 97 percent of all living things. Its origins have long been a puzzle for paleontologists. During the 1990s and the early part of this century, a great battle was fought between those who thought that death had come from above and those who thought something more complicated was at work.

Paleontologist Peter. D. Ward, fresh from helping prove that an asteroid had killed the dinosaurs, turned to the Permian problem, and he has come to a stunning conclusion. In his investigations of the fates of several groups of mollusks during that extinction and others, he discovered that the near-total devastation at the end of the Permian period was caused by rising levels of carbon dioxide leading to climate change. But it's not the heat (nor the humidity) that's directly responsible for the extinctions, and the story of the discovery of what is responsible makes for a fascinating, globe-spanning adventure.

In Under a Green Sky, Ward explains how the Permian extinction as well as four others happened, and describes the freakish oceans—belching poisonous gas—and sky—slightly green and always hazy—that would have attended them. Those ancient upheavals demonstrate that the threat of climate change cannot be ignored, lest the world's life today—ourselves included—face the same dire fate that has overwhelmed our planet several times before.

Water supports our planet and its vast resources need to be fully utilized to benefit human activities and his environment in a sustainable manner, most of inland water resources has been underutilised and under maintained. Maritime industry has made use of the ocean in a more much responsible manner for cross continental transportation of good. There are currently dire needs to find sensitive ways to mitigate challenge of global warming, climate changes and its associated impact, especially within the coastline. Various research works has proven that Inland Water Transportation represents the cleanest mode of transportation. Its use could reduce and mitigate carbon footage and other Green House Gases. Past system design and operation has followed conventional method. System has been addressed through reactive behaviour that has put system on probable risk and consequence in oblivion. Likewise, complexity of sustainable water transportation development demand design and operation that require careful evaluation which can be achieved by employing proactive method. That considers holistic system analysis approach. It has become important to address system associated risk, reliability and their life cycle through assessment of accident and pollution prevention, protection, control principle. Ageing, uncertainty and operational factors are also important system variables that need to be incorporated in risk close loop system. This book account for modelling of proactive technik and application of a top down risk and reliability based design that identifies assess, analyses and employ sustainability equity comparison leading to generic safety and environmental risk reliability model (SERM). SERM is a decision support system tool developed at University Technology Malaysia for the development of efficient and sustainable Inland Water Transportation System (IWT).
Just as World War II called an earlier generation to greatness, so the climate crisis is calling today's rising youth to action: to create a better future.

In UNSTOPPABLE, Bill Nye crystallizes and expands the message for which he is best known and beloved. That message is that with a combination of optimism and scientific curiosity, all obstacles become opportunities, and the possibilities of our world become limitless. With a scientist's thirst for knowledge and an engineer's vision of what can be, Bill Nye sees today's environmental issues not as insurmountable, depressing problems but as chances for our society to rise to the challenge and create a cleaner, healthier, smarter world. We need not accept that transportation consumes half our energy, and that two-thirds of the energy you put into your car is immediately thrown away out the tailpipe. We need not accept that dangerous emissions are the price we must pay for a vibrant economy and a comfortable life. Above all, we need not accept that we will leave our children a planet that is dirty, overheated, and depleted of resources. As Bill shares his vision, he debunks some of the most persistent myths and misunderstandings about global warming. When you are done reading, you'll be enlightened and empowered. Chances are, you'll be smiling, too, ready to join Bill and change the world.

In Unstoppable: Harnessing Science to Change the World, the New York Times bestselling author of Undeniable: Evolution and the Science of Creation and former host of "Bill Nye the Science Guy" issues a new challenge to today's generation: to make a cleaner, more efficient, and happier world.

Praise for UNDENIABLE:

"With his charming, breezy, narrative style, Bill empowers the reader to see the natural world as it is, not as some would wish it to be. He does it right. And, as I expected, he does it best." -Neil deGrasse Tyson, Ph.D, host of COSMOS

"Bill Nye, 'the Science Guy,' has become a veritable cultural icon....[T]he title of his new book on evolution...[is] 'Undeniable,' because, yes, there are many Americans who still deny what Darwin and other scientists long ago proved." -Frank Bruni, The New York Times

"With a jaunty bow tie and boyish enthusiasm, Bill Nye the Science Guy has spent decades decoding scientific topics, from germs to volcanoes, for television audiences....In his new book, Nye delights in how [evolution] helps to unlock the mysteries of everything from bumblebees to human origins to our place in the universe." -National Geographic

"When it comes to Bill Nye, 'Science Guy' doesn't even begin to cover it. When he's not being summoned to act as a voice of reason for news outlets or leading meetings as CEO of the Planetary Society, he is living the life of a best-selling author....His recently published book, 'Undeniable: Evolution and the Science of Creation,' enlightens readers while using a conversational, educational tone. After all, it's his ability to break down even the most complicated topics into bite-size pieces that made him such a hit on his '90s children's show 'Bill Nye, the Science Guy.'" -The Boston Globe

"Mr. Nye writes briskly and accessibly...[and] makes an eloquent case for evolution."-The Wall Street Journal

"Because [Bill Nye is] a scientist, he has no doubts that the 'deniers' of evolution are flat wrong. And because he's a performer, his book is fun to read and easy to absorb." -The Washington Post

"Ignite your inner scientist when Nye, known for delivering geeky intel with clarity and charm, takes on one of society's most hotly debated topics (yes, still)." -Time Out New York
