But a sudden tragedy forces Esperanza and Mama to flee to California and settle in a Mexican farm labor camp. Esperanza isn't ready for the hard work, financial struggles brought on by the Great Depression, or lack of acceptance she now faces. I love this book, i would totally recommend this to 10-12 year olds. But at the ending esperanza did not get to say how she did not like how miguel did not get to work at the railroad, or that the striker's that weren't even from Mexico got sent there, and that isabell did not get to be queen because she is Mexican

I enjoyed this book The only thing that I dislike was the ending the way she cut off from the story and gave brief details of their adult life not knowing what happened truly to everyone. A little more romance would have been nice too. Other than that it was a terrific book to read.
