NORMAN L. JOHNSON is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Statistics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. SAMUEL KOTZ is Professor of Statistics in the Department of Management Science and Statistics at the University of Maryland. Professors Johnson and Kotz coedited the internationally acclaimed, 10-volume Encyclopedia of Statistical Sciences (Wiley).
