Today we live in an era of unprecedented prosperity in world history. The number of millionaires far exceeds what was seen just a few years ago. On the other hand, every day universities and tertiary institutes around the world graduate more young people with degrees that qualify them as skilled in the most diverse areas of knowledge. However, despite these advances, it seems that something fundamental is missing. The world’s greatest need continues to be people of character. Individuals who are capable of making a difference in their environment. Who are recognized for their ethical and moral strength and not for the amount of money they have in the bank or for the academic titles they have achieved.

This essay focuses on character, which has to do with values and principles, and not on the ephemeral and subjective nature of image.

About the author

Miguel Ángel Núñez, PhD, of Chilean-Argentine descent, is a family counselor and marriage therapist with vast experience. He travels the world giving lectures and has been a university professor for more than 35 years. He is regularly invited to speak on topics such as childhood education, sexuality, family dynamics, marriage, anthropology and ethics. Happily married, he has two adult children, also married, and is a proud grandfather of four grandchildren. He has written more than 100 books. He resides in Spain.
