Luke is book 1 in the 7 Brides for 7 Brothers series. Each brother's story was written by a different author. Barbara Freethy leads off the series with Luke. Loved it. Cannot wait to read about the stories of the other six brothers. The story behind is the series is about the seven Brannigan brothers. Each for the most part living their own lives and occasionally hooking up with the other brothers. They lost their mother very young and are raised by an extremely wealthy father who doesn't quite know how to raise his sons without his wife. Luke and his father in particular didn't see eye to eye and had lots of disagreements over the years. Luke is the daredevil in the family, and doesn't want to put down roots. The brothers are reunited upon learning that their father is dead. None of them knew the father was very ill until after he passed away. The father in his infinite wisdom left each of his sons an envelope with a gift that was unique to each son. Luke's gift was the deed to a Lodge by Yosemite where his parents met and fell in love, and where the family spent their last vacation together before their mother passed away. No one even knew their father owned this lodge. Luke goes to check it out thinking he would sell it, only to discover that his father had hired Luke's college sweetheart, Lizzie, to run the Lodge. Lizzie and Luke's breakup ten years ago was very bitter, and each was hurt badly by it. Lizzie is doing a fabulous job running the Lodge, as well as trying to raise her 13 year old niece. Her niece is rebellious after having lost her parents in an auto accident. This book deals not only with a second chance at love for Luke and Lizzie, but also the healing love between an aunt and her niece. This is definitely a romance that doesn't involve suspense or mystery. I received an ARC of this book, in exchange for an honest review. Barbara Freethy has yet to disappoint me. You feel all the emotions that everyone is dealing with. Loved it!!!

Luke is a story of missed opportunities, wounded relationships and prideful behavior. All of these actions have played a part in the rift that exists between the powerful yet dysfunctional Brannigan family. Barbara Freethy begins this series with a story that is as therapeutic as it is heartbreaking. Colin Brannigan was not perfect and his actions had a profound impact on his Heirs. Facing his own mortality seemed to get him to look at the damage and in death create the legacy he was unable to rectify in life. The chance for his family to find happiness and absolution from the pain that he wrought upon them. Barbara Freethy was the ideal lead in for this spellbinding series. She knows how to appeal to emotions and get a reaction.

Luke is the first in the series written by seven different authors. Barbara Freethy wrote the first story about Luke and how his first true love Lizzie Parker are reunited because of very sad circumstances for both of them. I found the story light hearted but sad due to the fact all 7 brothers have been estranged from their father and he passes without contact to any of the sons. the sons each are gifted something special from their father and will be interesting to see how each gift will change each sons lives. Fast easy read that will leave you wanting more. freethy
