3.5 Stars This was a good slow burn story. Silas is a man with a lot of pain. Lyla is the person that breaks through his walls. I really liked Whiskey and his relationship with Silas. The secrets that each character had was kept from the reader for too long. It felt like the author was alienating the reader. We don't find out what happened to Silas until 63%and even then it was vague. Lyla's secret doesn't come out until around 80% and it is not the third act conflict. The epilogue was nice.

Standalone with HEA, no cliffhanger. Silas needs a wife and Lyla needs some fast money. The solution is to get married. This book follows Silas as he tries to deal with his past, and reluctantly confronts an uncle who wants to take over the family business. Lyla is determined to try and make the best of the situation. The beginning was a little slow to start but once we get about halfway, things really start to pick up. There's some mystery surrounding them both, a lot of pent-up sexual tension, and an element of danger with what they are trying to achieve. It takes them (quite rightly) a little while to trust one another, but once they do they become a great team. These two needed each other, have an instant attraction but both resist. Once they start to talk to each other sparks start to fly. You will be rooting for these two to stay together for real right from their first meeting. - fake/arranged marriage - forced proximity - reclusive billionaire - past abuse

This story was so much more than I expected. I thought it was going to be about a reclusive billionaire living on a mountain because he hated being rich. While in some ways that was true, there was much more that drove Silas to that life than just not wanting the reclusive lifestyle. Silas' father has died and he now has to marry to ensure his inheritance. He decides to use a modern day mail-order-bride service. Layla needs money and being a bride is better than anything else she comes up with. While she and Silas have instant chemistry, they both have too many problems in the real world that they have to deal with. Together they discover love and ways to help each other find a new path. This is the third book in this series but the first I read. It was a complete standalone with a HEA.
