Probably the most epic of fantasies out there. Very well written but not for everybody. I fell in love with the bridge burners/bone hunters comedic nuances but other parts of the books felt almost too drawn out. You could definitely tell in the final books that there was a "push" to wrap up storylines and finish the series. The vast amount of characters and backstories hurts readability almost from the start. Fights and battles were top notch as well as overall creativity. The internal dialogs were often drawn out (especially for characters I didnt care for) and I felt there needed to be more environmental description.

Masterful storytelling in an epic world with likeable characters and schemes. I have reread the series multiple times and it is still enjoyable each time as I find something missed or overlooked. Even today, I compare all other books and series to Steven Erickson's Malazan Books of the Fallen.

This series had so much potential. There are countless wonderful and interesting characters that really draw you in. The first several books make you think this will be a great epic like Wheel of Time or Game of Throwns. However, the author keeps introducing new characters and new stories with every book and does not build on the characters you already love. It gets very philosophical and vague throughout. There are a million side storylines that just go away and never come back. Things you think will be important later never are. I was very disappointed by the end of the series. I kept wanting more, but by the last couple books I knew I was not going to get it. I had to finish the series, and interesting things happened, but everything never got tied all back together like I so badly wanted it to.
