This extraordinary event is a miraculous testimony of the Lord’s fervent love, bringing us to be born again through the Gospel of the water and the blood, even manifesting it through His dead body.
Additionally, the latter part of the Gospel of John teaches about the proper life of the born-again righteous. It introduces Jesus as “the way, the truth, and the life,” explains how we can bear abundant spiritual fruit, declares that the born-again righteous have overcome the world, and teaches how they can renew their hearts and follow the Lord’s will after sinning.
On the evening when Jesus was betrayed, during the Passover supper, He washed His disciples’ feet. When Peter strongly objected, the Lord said, “If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me” (John 13:8). Shocked by this, Peter replied, “Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head!” To this, the Lord responded, “He who is bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean” (John 13:9-10).
Many preachers use this passage to support the doctrine of repentance prayers. However, the doctrine of repentance prayers is false and, in itself, a curse. Think about it: Can you remember and confess every sin you have committed in repentance prayer? What about the sins you cannot recall? The Word says, “Without shedding of blood there is no remission” (Hebrews 9:22). Sins cannot be washed away by tearful repentance; they are remitted only through the payment of the ransom of life.
Many are trapped in such false doctrines, rendering themselves spiritual cripples and unable to rise from the position of being “Christian sinners.”
The key to understanding why Jesus washed His disciples’ feet lies in His words: “What I am doing you do not understand now, but you will know after this” (John 13:7). The answer will become clear as you peruse this book.
I hope to richly share the profound and lofty spiritual lessons of the Gospel of John through this book.
Hallelujah!
