In this book, Jeffrey Goldstein examines the attractions of a broad range of people to violent entertainment in the media, ranging from violence in sports to popular video games to children’s literature and television programming. Goldstein suggests that there are many different attractions to violent imagery, whether for personal satisfaction of seeing justice enacted, for social acceptance through shared experiences, or simply for entertainment. Overall, this is a very good book for anybody interested in media and media relations, as it provides significant insight into why violence is so predominant in modern media from a variety of angles including the history of violence in the media.
