Stella Brice graduated from Rice University; & has worked, variously, as house cleaner, tarot reader & performance artist. Her poems have been published in many journals & anthologies including Southern Poetry Review, Fine Madness, Word Riot, Right Hand Pointing, Gingerbread House, Clean Sheets, The Weight of Addition, Women. Period., Improbable Worlds, & No, Achilles. She is a Pushcart nominee & a winner of the John Z. Bennet Prize; & is the author of two chapbooks—Green Lion & Outgrow—(both by Art Club Press); & a full-length collection of poetry from purple flag press (Chicago) called Urged (or, How Sex & Death Lift Up My Granny). Recently, Stella began serving as a mentor in the PEN Prison Writing Program. She lives with her husband David & an orange cat named Duncan in a 109 year old house in Houston.
