A Cold Dark Place was a thrilling 5 star read and book one in the Cold Justice series. I was pulled in right from the beginning. The FBI had once estimated there were approximately two-hundred and fifty serial killers active in the US at any one time. Alex’s job was whittling that number down. Mallory is an FBI agent who is working hard to put serial killers away. She is also searching for the one responsible for taking her sister from her 18 years ago. Alex is an assassin who is working towards freedom by hunting serial killers, he is counting down the days. When Mallory discovers a serial killer dead at a crime scene she suspects there is someone else they should be looking for. This is where Alex comes in, he decides to watch her and make sure she doesn’t discover who he is. This is where things take an interesting twist and get even better. There is so much more to this great mystery and suspenseful read. There are secrets revealed and you continue to be on the edge of your seat until your done. I was very happy with how everything came together in the end. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

This book was exactly what I was hoping for and more! I enjoyed every moment of it and it kept me on my toes trying to solve the mysteries throughout the book. I absolutely loved all the characters and the chemistry between Mallory and Alex was on fire. You could feel their connection and felt what they were feeling. The suspense and action kept me glued to the pages and the whole storyline was fantastic. Toni is amazing at putting realistic details about the FBI and other government agencies into her books. I loved this book and it started the series off perfectly. I can't wait to read Cold Pursuit!!

4.5 Stars Got my attention and held it throughout the book. Well written. The characters are well developed and interesting. More of a crime suspense novel than a romance. A lot of action and keeps you guessing to the end who the serial killer is, but gives you clues as the story unfolds. A satisfying and all around good read. The suspense was spot on. The romance was well done, but the actual sex scenes seemed just a bit rushed to me. You are never sure how Mallory is going to react to the truth of who Alex is till the end. I will be adding book #2 Cold Pursuit to my TBR pile.
