This is the beginning of a brand new series by author Caroline Mitchell. LOVE YOU TO DEATH introduces the reader to Detective Ruby Preston. Someone is killing mothers who at one time has given up a girl child for adoption. When a young female shows up at their door announcing that she is the long-lost daughter ... begins a nightmare... a nightmare that leads nowhere except death. Ruby and her team have few clues .. but four mothers have now been killed. Something about they way the bodies are staged nudges at Ruby's memory. What secrets does Ruby have? She is in love with the son of a criminal family. She's having an affair with a member of her team. Her mother is in a home for Alzheimer's patients. And her past and present are about to collide. This is a great beginning to a new series. Ruby is a great character ... full of flaws, not knowing who she can trust with her secrets ... worried that her job will disappear when her secrets are known. Nathan is the son of a deceased crime lord. Love can carry you a long way .. but a criminal and a cop have literally no chance at a future together. The story premise is excellent. Lots of twists and turns and you never see the ending coming at you like the speed of a freight train. This is definitely a series to follow. I chose to read LOVE YOU TO DEATH. I was expecting a bigger twist at the end but it was still good. Somehow I missed how she figured out the whole thing, so I didn't feel like I was discovering it at the same time as her
