Ratings and reviews

I loved this sci-fi romance. The world building of the Court and Capitol of the Empire was vivid! The politics machinations and dangers of the Court kept the stakes incredibly high, which kept me turning the pages rapidly. The hero was deliciously alpha, and his loyalty was deftly described as both a strength and a weakness. The heroine was also deeply nuanced and sympathetic despite, or maybe because of, her flaws. The characterization of both protagonists in this novel was top-notch. There was plenty of action and explosions to satisfy my hunger for exciting space opera, and the development of the romantic relationship was swoony and sizzling hot. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series when it releases. I highly recommend this whole series so far! Each book is better than the previous one. I received a free copy of this book, and I am voluntarily writing this review.

Ranse is the Emperor’s middle child and kind of an outcast to his father and brothers, even though he longs to belong. In the midst of a plot on his families lives and throne he learns quickly there is only one woman he can trust. Allie is a woman from earth who leaves her family behind to find a cure for the rage and addictions that the Arrisans mating metal, Lusteal, she was infected with have caused. Allie tries so hard in the beginning to stick to her ideas of what strong feminist woman should be, and then learns that loving Ranse and letting him love and help her, doesn’t make her weak. Together Allie and Ranse’s love changes the fate of the Arrisan Empire, Earth and the “lessers” who were also infected by the Lusteal. Steamy and sexy, with a strong female I could relate to quite often, I absolutely couldn’t put it down! This series is a must from start to finish! Starla is a fantastic author, if you haven’t read her other works I highly recommend them. I am SO excited to see what happens next in this series and how the overall story wraps up!

I loved Ranse and Allie's book! This is such a great series, and all of the couples are wonderful, but I did think these two were a bit special. I found both of these characters easy to care for and connect with. They each have a bit of baggage and that added an extra underlaying layer of emotion to this engaging story. I thought it was really wonderful to watch these two growing and "becoming" into who they were meant to be. They found the strength to do that in each other and that was a very beautiful thing. The author skillfully combines the emotional and steamy quite cleverly with drama, intrigue, danger, humor, sweetness, action, suspense and heart to create an immersive world that feels different, yet somehow tragically relatable. Pair that with the complex characters that you can easily find pieces of yourself in, and you have a book/series that melts your heart with the feels, has your temperature climbing and makes your pulse race. I do recommend that you read all these books and in order because characters reappear, previous events are referenced and there is an overarching storyline playing out. Since this whole series is amazing this will not be a chore and it will increase your reading enjoyment all the way up to the maximum level. This book ends with a tempting tease of book four and let me just say, O.M.G! I can't wait. I am electing to post a candid review.
