About this ebook

"World Breakfast" is a surreal, allegorical tale blending magical realism and social commentary, set in the town of M___ and a fantastical "microverse" within a book bag. The story follows Pigott Deroller, a writer who organizes his work into "Ops" and "Research" piles, seeking inspiration from the rhythm of ocean waves and a collection of cherished books by authors like James Joyce and John Steinbeck. In M___, a decaying society ritualistically destroys books by using them as food wrappers during train trips to a beer hall, where communal revelry masks intellectual decline. The townspeople also kill a daily "last goat" to suppress its ominous bleats, interpreted as portents of disaster, reinforcing their superstitious traditions.

In contrast, the book bag contains a magical microverse where stuffed animals and angels reside. Angels read and vote on texts, including mundane technical manuals, preserving wisdom in a living universe that opposes M___’s cultural erosion. Pigott, torn between the town’s ignorance and his creative aspirations, retreats to the ocean to read and record, while the angels in the microverse critique his writing, guarding the sincerity of his work.
