ಪುರುಷ ಸೂಕ್ತವು ಋಗ್ವೇದ ಸಂಹಿತೆಯ ೮ ನೆಯ ಅಷ್ಟಕದ ೪ ನೆಯ ಅಧ್ಯಾಯದ ೧೭-೧೯ ನೆಯ ವರ್ಗಗಳಲ್ಲಿ.... ಹದಿನಾರು ಋಕ್ಕುಗಳುಳ್ಳ ಭಾಗ ... ಈ ಮಂತ್ರಗಳು “ಪುರುಷ” ನನ್ನು - ಎಂದರೆ ಪುರುಷೋತ್ತಮನಾದ ಶ್ರೀಮನ್ನಾರಾಯಣನನ್ನು - ಕುರಿತವಾದದ್ದರಿಂದ ಅವಕ್ಕೆ “ಪುರುಷ ಸೂಕ್ತ” ವೆಂದೂ “ನಾರಾಯಣ” ಅಥವಾ “ನಾರಾಯಣೀಯ” ವೆಂದೂ ಹೆಸರೆಂದು ಒಂದು ನಾಮನಿಷ್ಪತ್ತಿ. ಪುರುಷಸೂಕ್ತವೆಂದರೆ ಪುರುಷನನ್ನು ಕುರಿತಸೂಕ್ತ. ಪುರುಷ ಎಂದರೆ ಪರಮಾತ್ಮ. ಯಾವ ಮಹಾಸತ್ತ್ವವು ಮನುಷ್ಯನಿಗೆ ತಿಳಿದಿರುವ ಎಲ್ಲದರಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ತುಂಬಿಕೊಂಡು ಜಗದಾಕಾರವಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆಯೋ ಅದೇ “ಪುರುಷ”. ಸೂಕ್ತವೆಂದರೆ (ಸು+ಉಕ್ತ) “ಸರಿಯಾದ ಹೇಳಿಕೆ”. ಚರಾಚರ ಪ್ರಪಂಚದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಂತರ್ಯಾಮಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದುಕೊಂಡು ಜೀವಲೀಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಮಗೆ ಗೋಚರವಾಗಿರುವ ಪರಮಾತ್ಮ ವಸ್ತುವನ್ನು ಕುರಿತ ಪ್ರಮಾಣ ವಾಕ್ಯವೇ “ಪುರುಷ ಸೂಕ್ತ”. - ‘ಗ್ರಂಥವಿಚಾರ’ದಿಂದ
