About this ebook

In the crowded slums of Mumbai,

a boy harbours a big dream.

Bijay was playing cricket in a huge open ground, not knowing that he was trespassing on the grounds of a Naval base. He met an officer who impressed him, gave him the biggest life-lesson, and a dream that changed his life forever.

Despite his roots – a gangster uncle, a union leader father, a mother who fed the family, and brothers who looked up to him, a girlfriend (now wife) who stood by him – he chased his dreams and achieved them! Armed with resilience, discipline, and a refusal to surrender to circumstance, Bijay dared to dream beyond his limitations and charted a course toward an extraordinary life.

With the sea as his calling and turning obstacles into opportunities, he joined the Indian Navy. Against the Tide is his true story, that will show you the power of inspiration, courage, perseverance, and unwavering determination.

Become a part of his extraordinary journey from the slums to the seas, from a modest upbringing to donning the uniform and carving a niche for himself in the Indian Navy. Lt Cdr Bijay Nair narrates the incidents that shaped him, with impeccable humour that will make you smile, laugh, reflect, and relate while occasionally wiping away a stray tear.
