i literally loved this book and im really picky when it comes to books. like from the plot to the characters, its just an amazing book overall. like for a black kid to be expected to do neverless than the best was just eye opening on how much peoples opinions can afecta ones life.

As a multiracial, young, black man, this hits home in so many ways. Though I don't have the experience of growing up with little money, I still identify with Justyce and Manny. I picked this book up in the library, opened to a random page and was hooked. I bought it the same day and finished it the next. Foolishly, after i started reading, I hoped to find answers for questions that only I can answer. It helped me think about them in a different way but I am still left thinking about them: what do WE do about the increasing unfettered violence against us? There is no easy answer. But this book made me feel good. I loved it. I loved the character development, the relationships, the realness of the characters' thoughts and predicaments. The method and style was unique and enjoyable. And I read the sneak peek of another book by her (Nic Stone) and I loved it too! I think I found my new author to follow :) Thank you, Nic Stone, for writing. I cherish it.

It's a heart wrenching story of a young man who just wants to do what's right. It made me feel for the protagonist and is beautifully written in a modern youth's tone. I would definitely reccomend this a s a read and I'm not much of a reader.

About the author

Nic Stone is a native of Atlanta and a Spelman College graduate. After working extensively in teen mentoring and living in Israel for a few years, she returned to the United States to write full-time. Dear Martin, her first novel, is loosely based on a series of true events involving the shooting deaths of unarmed African American teenagers. Shaken by the various responses to these incidents—and to the pro-justice movement that sprang up as a result—Stone began the project in an attempt to examine current affairs through the lens of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s teachings.
