Mike Dicks was born in Bishops Stortford, England. He grew up in Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire, and then moved around a lot, having what is best described as a 'portfolio career,’ and a life of creating anecdotes about himself. Mike lives by the sea in Brighton, (Hove, actually) England with his dog, and co-author, Scrabble. His first book, ‘Mike&Scrabble - a guide to owning your new Human’ was published in early 2017.
Scrabble was born on an Irish puppy farm to a randy Jack Russell father and a Dachshund mother (or the other way round). She left Ireland in 2016 to find fame as an author in England – Sussex, to be precise – where she adopted a stray Human called Mike, with whom she provided the inspiration for, and co-wrote, her first book, ‘Mike&Scrabble - a guide to owning your new Human.’
As you'd expect from a book written by a dog about humans, it's irreverent, cynical and disrespectful. Dogs provide helpful observations and advice on specific issues: for example, how to retain any semblance of self-esteem while wearing the 'Cone of Shame' anti-scratch collar or how to really frustrate your owner when playing 'fetch'.
How to Be a Dog is the official rulebook of the doggie world - a hilarious guide for living with - or putting up with - humans, and always getting the upper hand (or paw).
John and Jenny were just beginning their life together. They were young and in love, with not a care in the world. Then they brought home Marley, a wiggly yellow furball of a puppy. Life would never be the same.
Marley grew into a barreling, ninety-seven-pound streamroller of a Labrador retriever. He crashed through screen doors, gouged through drywall, and stole women's undergarments. Obedience school did no good -- Marley was expelled.
But just as Marley joyfully refused any limits on his behavior, his love and loyalty were boundless, too. Marley remained a model of devotion, even when his family was at its wit's end. Unconditional love, they would learn, comes in many forms.
Marley & Me is John Grogan's funny, unforgettable tribute to this wonderful, wildly neurotic Lab and the meaning he brought to their lives.
