Helena Hunting is on a winning streak with PUCKED OFF, the fifth book from the Pucked series. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I’ve been dying to know more about what was going on between Lance Romero and Tash; finding out his side of the story shocked me. I love that he reconnects with Poppy in this story. This contemporary sports romance primarily takes place in Chicago. It is told from both Lance’s and Poppy’s point of view. I love Lance’s character. He is complex and unexpected. He has a dark past. He is good at hiding his issues. My heart really went out to him. I’m so glad he crossed paths with Poppy again. She is the perfect person to heal him, physically and mentally. I thought it was clever how Lance and Poppy met as kids. Poppy is about as sweet as they come. I appreciated that she ends up becoming Lance’s massage therapist. Tash surprised me. I liked her in the earlier books. I would have never guessed the issues going on with her. It goes to show to show how different a person’s true nature can be. I love how tight Lance is with his teammates and their girlfriends/wife. They are his family and look out for him. I love how the girls got involved with Poppy. Helena Hunting did an amazing job with this story. The characters are skillfully developed and believable. The plot was unique and intriguing. I LOVED the ending; it was very clever. This series just keeps getting better. I become more invested in the characters with every new book. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

This is going to be the most vague review I will ever write for a book I love so much. To start, take everything you think you know about Lance "Romance" Romero and throw it all right out the window. Go ahead, I'll wait... I knew there had to be more to Lance than just the crazy parties, the hook-ups with bunnies, and the unfortunate situation with Tash. But never in my wildest dreams did I expect what was to come in Pucked Off. I never expected the tears, the heartache, the anguish. I never expected to hate a character as much as I hated her. And I never, ever expected to fall so hard and so deeply for Lance Romero. Lance completely, utterly, and absolutely owned me, even as he destroyed me. He has more depth to him than you can even begin to imagine. Helena has seriously outdone herself with this book. It's everything you've come to love about the Pucked series, but so, so much more. "Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested: that is, some books are to be read only in parts, others to be read, but not curiously, and some few to be read wholly, and with diligence and attention." ~ Sir Francis Bacon I feel like Sir Francis Bacon wrote this quote specifically for Pucked Off, without even knowing it. There are some books that deserves to be savored, and this for sure is one of them. I have so many quotes highlighted that I'd love to share but I honestly don't want to spoil anyone's reading experience. Pucked Off, Lance, and the wonderful heroine, will stay in my heart for a long, long time. "You're all the good things I didn't know I was missing."

The Pucked series and The Clipped Wings series just have me hooked by Helena Hunting. I knew Pucked Off was going to blow it out of the water for me. I was excited to read Lance’s story, our favorite Scottie!!! I loved Poppy too (like the flower). Through Helena’s series and in Pucked Off you can not help but be emotionally invested. You feel like you are reading about your own extended family. I have not read through every book in this series. But I will make up for it and start one clicking on the ones I have missed. Pucked Off made me feel hurtfully happy. Yes I know that is not a REAL word, but this book inspired me a new emotion. And whoa you find out how much stamina these hockey players have. I loved it. You will fall for Poppy and want to be her friend. You wants to hold Lance’s heart and protect it. Something out there always brought these two together. There is an ugly past that you will read about. It is not pretty, but it is a reality. What a wonderful story! If you have been following the Pucked series, you want to revisit our favorite hockey men. If you are new to the series, that is okay too. Pucked Off can be read as a stand alone.
