Hiro lives in a Los Angeles where franchises line the freeway as far as the eye can see. The only relief from the sea of logos is within the autonomous city-states, where law-abiding citizens don’t dare leave their mansions.

Ratings and reviews

Really an easy and enjoyable read into a future that is much more likely than most sci-fi futures I read about. I own the real book, but Google Books won't let me tell it I already own it. Google has a long way to go to catch up to Amazon in little ways like this. Still: prefer the google play store over all.

I know everyone raves about this book but I am not impressed. Skip to the end of the chapter as soon as Hiro starts talking to the Librarian. The religious "history" and franchise society used as a plot devices are both lazy, dumb, and down right insulting to everyone.

One of those books I've been meaning to read for a long time. Kind of assumed that having been written in the pre-dawn of Teh Interwebz and VR, and being primarily about those things, it would be too dated to enjoy. I was wrong. Hugely entertaining, and shows what a visionary talent Stephenson is.
