About this ebook

"The Peppers' good spirits, their love for each other, and their pleasure in simple homemade fun still charms me." —Betsy Byars, Newbery Medal–winning author

"One of the seminal books of American children's fiction." — AudioFile Magazine

Mrs. Pepper and her five lively children Ben, Polly, Joel, Davie, and Phronsie have had many hard times in the Little Brown House since the children's father died. But no matter how tough things get, the Little Peppers always handle their difficulties with great courage and cheer. They have learned to take delight even in the smallest of pleasures because the children are sure that good times are just around the corner. One day, the Peppers meet a wealthy gentleman and his young son who will change their lives forever. Could this finally be the beginning of the good times the Little Peppers have been waiting for?

About the author

Margaret Sidney was the pen name for Harriet M. Stone who was born in New Haven, Connecticut. Although her life spanned more than half of the 19th century, we know little about her until the 1880's when her novel Five Little Pepper and How They Grew appeared in the magazine Wide Awake. To this day Five Little Peppers and How They Grew, remains on of the seminal books of American children's fiction.
