About this ebook

Celebrated author and cocktail expert David Wondrich introduces this free enhanced edition of How to Mix Drinks. Also known as "The Bon-vivant’s Companion," this vintage piece of Americana is the original bartender’s guide, written in 1862 by legendary barman Jerry Thomas. David Wondrich won a James Beard Award for Imbibe!, a book about Thomas's life and legacy that laid much of the foundation for today's artisan cocktail revival. In our exclusive interactive e-book, he demonstrates four classic cocktails, complete with colorful commentary and step-by-step video instruction.

I wanted this for my e-reader, but after downloading it I discovered it was over 56MB (50 times larger than most e-books). A quick fix was to use the free program Sigil to open the epub version and delete all the videos. Now I have a really nice book at 1.8MB. The videos seemed fairly pointless and detracted from the appeal of the book anyway.

You will always need a cc to buy something even if its free! Your cc won't be charged unless you sign up for a monthly magazine subscription. To take full advantage of the Android app store just put a dang cc. Stop being so paranoid.

About the author

Jerry Thomas (1830-1885) was an American bartender now considered the father of American mixology. In addition to writing How to Mix Drinks, his inspired recipes and showmanship paved the way for bartending as a creative profession, which is why he is often referred to as “Professor” Jerry Thomas.

David Wondrich started writing about cocktails for Esquire in 1999. Imbibe, his 2007 tribute to Professor Jerry Thomas, has become an essential text for bartenders and cocktail geeks alike and was the first cocktail book to win a James Beard award. Punch, his 2010 follow-up, has helped refill the flowing bowl around the world."
