About this ebook

The Yuki and Akai have been at war for an entire generation. Though a terrible toll has been paid in fighting battles of retribution and discrimination, neither side wants to surrender. No one will be free from suffering unless minds are changed and forgiveness is found. Some are ready for peace, though, and willing to fight for that instead. They can only hope their voices will be heard.

Suddenly promoted to a role he feels unprepared to assume, Kitaru now has to live up to his people’s expectations as his village’s mage protector. He’s been apprenticing for years, but now he’s without the guidance he’s relied upon for so long and he’s terrified of failing. When a blizzard blows through the forest, bringing with it an unexpected houseguest, Kitaru thinks fate must be aligned against him. He certainly didn’t ask for anyone to obliterate his solitude and complicate his life. But as he adapts to accommodate the needs of someone else, he discovers that sometimes being alone can indeed be rather lonely.

Ryota’s life is one vast, empty hole of confusion ever since he suffered a head injury and lost his memory. He doesn’t know why he was wandering in the middle of the forest during a storm or how he ended up unconscious. The only thing he’s sure of is his name. Well, that, and the fact that the home in which he awakens is warm, comfortable, and inhabited by a really cute mage. It’s frustrating that he doesn’t know who he is beyond an obviously idiotic, unprepared traveler and somehow, a surprisingly good cook. As he learns more about his kind and generous host, Ryota wishes he could share more of himself as well. But first, he needs his memory to return and fill in the blanks.

As two lost souls find solace in each other, they discover more than shared diversions and mutual attraction. When the truth comes to light, it brings the end of everything they thought they understood. Unthinkable choices must be made which will alter the course of their lives. Then it’s up to them to decide if sacrifice is worth changing the world.
