About this ebook

Enter a “gorgeously realized world”* and meet a mage destined for greatness in the first novel in the national bestselling Alex Verus series.

Alex is part of a world hidden in plain sight, running a magic shop in London that caters to clientele who can do much more than pull rabbits out of hats. And while Alex’s own powers aren’t as showy as some mages, he does have the advantage of foreseeing the possible future—allowing him to pull off operations that have a million to one chance of success.

But when Alex is approached by multiple factions seeking his skills to crack open a relic from a long-ago mage war, he knows that whatever’s inside must be beyond powerful. And thanks to his abilities, Alex can predict that by taking the job, his odds of survival are about to go from slim to none....

It's... odd. It's pretty good, but the world feels like it needs more flushing out, or just more time in the book to explain what is going on. You get introduced to characters with only a little knowledge of who they are but being told that they're important, without fully understanding why they're so important. But overall I enjoyed it. It's weird and fun.

An outstanding supernatural thriller, Benedict Jacka's Fated introduces us to the world of Alex Verus - owner of the Arcana Emporium, Diviner, and all around smartass. Fans of Jim Butcher's The Dresden Files are sure to find something familiar to love here, yet with a new and refreshing charm taking to the world of magic. In a world where people can conjure lightning, shake the earth beneath our feet or kill with just a thought... sometimes it's not about who has the most power to throw around, but who knows how much power is going to be thrown when and where. If you're looking for a new Urban Fantasy title, definitely pick up this series.

Not normally my style, but ended up getting sucked in. Definitely plan on reading the whole series now.
