Longitudes & Latitudes, ninety-nine delicious poems by Phoebe Angeni, is an open invitation to spend time in a most cherished space while exploring human feeling on a gritty, vulnerable, relatable, even mythical scale. The author brilliantly weaves experimental, modernist and beat poet influences with a baroque and romantic consideration of language. This work is fiercely feminist, mischievous and even has moments of sarcastic humor, all ultimately life affirming, hopeful, transformative.

This collection is short and sweet, I found myself wanting to read on after the book had ended. Her words are vulnerable and honest; exploring themes of love, heartbreak and home, it’s as if Angeni takes you on a journey through her heart.

About the author

Phoebe Angeni is an emerging international poet and theatremaker. Born in San Francisco, Angeni found her home in the East of Scotland and now takes on projects in both America and the UK. Angeni’s work includes professional credits as a performer and assistant director as well as the creator of a one-woman adaptation of Homer’s Odyssey, Ithaca, which premiered with five-star reviews at the Edinburgh Fringe. Inspired by Classical and Pagan subjects as well as avant-garde art movements such as Dadaism and Surrealism, Angeni’s poetry strives to break the literary fourth wall and create an intimate relationship with its audience.

Phoebe Angeni holds a BA Honours in English Literature from the University of St Andrews and has completed intensives at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, London, and the Stella Adler Studio in NYC. A (retired) certified yoga instructor and former barista, Angeni can still craft a mean latte and design sweet vinyasa flows.
