I really enjoyed this book. It takes place during England's Cromwell era. The Beverley children are the main characters. Their father died during a battle supporting the king. Their mother died shortly after. Jacob Armitage is a keeper in the New Forest. He overhears some of Cromwell's troops saying they were going to go to the home of the Beverley's. He gets the four children to come with him to the forest. That night the troops burn down the house and everyone thinks the children died in the fire.
He keeps the children and passes them off as his grandchildren. There are some adventures as they learn to adapt to a life in the forest. An enchanting story and you learn a little history too.
