About this ebook

THEY WERE EXPENDABLE . . . UNTIL THEY STARTED COMPARING NOTES

A free preview of Redshirts, the astonishing new science-fiction yarn from John Scalzi.

"Redshirts is (a) ruin-your-underwear funny, (b) a mind-bender sure to Philip K. Dick you over, and (c) absurdly rich in ideas and feeling. John Scalzi sets his imagination to STUN and scores a direct hit. Read on and prosper." - Joe Hill, New York Times-bestselling author of Heart-Shaped Box

Ensign Andrew Dahl has just been assigned to the Universal Union Capital Ship Intrepid, flagship of the Universal Union since the year 2456. It's a prestige posting, with the chance to serve on "Away Missions" alongside the starship's famous senior officers.

Life couldn't be better . . . until Andrew begins to realize that (1) every Away Mission involves a lethal confrontation with alien forces, (2) the ship's senior officers always survive these confrontations, and (3) sadly, at least one low-ranking crew member is invariably killed. Unsurprisingly, the savvier crew members belowdecks avoid Away Missions at all costs.

Then Andrew stumbles on information that transforms his and his colleagues' understanding of what the starship Intrepid really is . . . and offers them a crazy, high-risk chance to save their own lives.

Darn you, Scalzi! How dare you write a book this good! Even worse, you make the first four chapters available for free! I was planning on buying just the hard copy, but after reading this, I just can't wait! It must be mine!

I asked for the free sample thinking that I might get a taste of the book. You know, like actual words from the story.like a sample of what I might want to read and buy. But what do I get but the title page the copy right warning, a blank page and a page that asks me if I liked what I read. The title page was nice as was the blank page. The copy right page was a bit dry and the please give me money page left me wanting more. I'd like to give you money but Im not sure the actual text can live up to expe

Even though these chapters are free, don't waste your time. Scalzi's other books in the Dead Man's War series were absolutely fantastic, but this one is terrible.
