Lebih dari 90% bayi dan anak-anak yang terinfeksi HIV tersebut tertular dari ibunya pada masa kehamilan, saat persalinan, atau melalui ASI. Penyakit HIV AIDS mempunyai stigma tersendiri di masyarakat sehingga banyak terjadi diskriminasi terhadap para penderita HIV AIDS.
