Ratings and reviews

Waste of time and stereotypes homosexuals and black men. You can figure out where the story was going within the first two chapters, because the premise has been used repeatedly. I'm mad that I paid $1.99 for this book, because that was too much. The author recited several stereotypes about black men and homosexuals, but she seems to think that throwing a few compliments out about the black killer is ok, and making the homosexual guy her loving brother makes her biases ok. I regret reading this garbage to the end and hoping it'd get better. If the author didn't mean to offend, I suggest she learn more about the groups she's writing about so as not to come off as ignorant and offensive as she did in this book.

I really wanted to like this book when I first picked it up. It seemed to have all of the characteristics of a good psychological mystery. Unfortunately, some aspects of this book let me down in a big way. As a Black woman I was interested in seeing how Corban played into this intricate web of intrigue. I must say I was sorely disappointed that he turned out to be a villainous, narcissistic rapist. I found the comment about black men running fast to be especially distasteful. Obviously biased point of view aside, I felt the characters could have contained more depth. Will's actions proved contrary to everything he's ever said and his explanation in the end was lackluster and frankly didn't make sense. I think the writer could use some cultural diversity (sensitivity?) training and perhaps a better perspective on socioeconomic status and the role it plays in people's lives and decisions. The plot twists began to resemble the Atlanta elite's version of a telenovela and soon lost their impact. Overall, I was saddened that this book didn't fulfill my expectations and continues to perpetuate stereotypes of black men as rapists and criminals. We need to do better in 2017.

The use of Atlanta landmarks is realistic. Unfortunately, that is where the believability ends. A wife doesn't realize her husband has no friends from his past? The plane that crashed just happens to be going to the same city that he lived in? Overall plot is predictable while details are unbelievable, which is an odd mixture. Almost didn't finish, but wanted to see how all the details tie together at the end, but disappointed to find out they did not.
