Having seem "Casablanca" when a boy of about 7 or 8 in a theater soon after its release, my interest in this story has nearly been life-long. How I came to see the film, I don't know and I am certain I did not understand much of it. Nevertheless, "Casablanca" made an indelible impression on me. In my adult years I have seen it several times and like it more and more at each viewing. So, when I found the book "As Time Goes By" by Michael Walsh I put everything aside to read the "rest of the story." What a delightful book of wartime intrique and adventure. Rick's and Ilsa's struggle to justify their existence in the face of the Nazi mayhem that engulfed Europe held me in its grip. All the characters were there. Sam, the piano player, continued to play an important role that ends in tragedy. You will have to read the book to learn if Ilsa, Victor, Rick, and Sam finally find safety in America. You will enjoy the read.
