About this ebook

Your mother hollers that you're going to miss the bus. She can see it coming down the street. You don't stop and hug her and tell her you love her. You don't thank her for being a good, kind, patient mother. Of course not—you launch yourself down the stairs and make a run for the corner.

Only, if it's the last time you'll ever see your mother, you sort of start to wish you'd stopped and did those things. Maybe even missed the bus.

But the bus was barreling down our street, so I ran.

Fourteen kids. One superstore. A million things that go wrong.

In Emmy Laybourne's action-packed debut novel, six high school kids (some popular, some not), two eighth graders (one a tech genius), and six little kids trapped together in a chain superstore build a refuge for themselves inside. While outside, a series of escalating disasters, beginning with a monster hailstorm and ending with a chemical weapons spill, seems to be tearing the world—as they know it—apart.

In January of 2016 I "lay" on the bench (I say lay but it was more like sitting, bent over to the side and resting on my face, miserably) in a dr's office, with a fever over 104, so sick that the quiet of the room was pounding and pushing it's way through my eardrums. I'm just staring at the wall where there's a paper divider nailed to it and the top of the first book of this series is visible and in my brain I'm begging the book to float over to me (it doesn't so I drag my cement-filled self off the bed and over to retrieve it myself) I had read to where they saw the black cloud floating up to the sky, the part where it gets super interesting (the whole thing before this was also super interesting, right from the very beginning!) when the doc came in. I ended up taking the book home with me (with my dr's permission) and Monument 14 helped me survive the worst case of the flu I have ever had. Emmy Laybourne wastes NO time in hooking you and reeling you right in! From the very first page to the very last it's page after page of action and excitement, and even though it's a story about tragedy and loss and grief following a series of horrific events, there is also the perfect amount of humor within the whole series, which all make it so hard to put down! Even for someone who can't even lift her head. Since I was too ill to go to the bookstore and buy the other 2 copies I dug out my debit card and purchased the whole series, and I just had to share with everyone how amazing this story is. If you are unsure about wether or not you should buy this series or not put it this way, I bet 8/10 people who purchase the first book will buy the 3rd book along with the 2nd without having to read the second one first. It really is a good series, I can't wait for the movie!!

This entire series is one of my favorite stories you actually feel like you're their, granted the way the whole thing starts is a little far fetched but if you ignore that and focus on the rest of the story you start to be able to relate with each character in certain ways and begin to grow attached to them my favorite character in this serious has to be Niko and Josie they are the most intriguing and feel like i relate best to them. This entire book is nothing but excellent and I don't recommend you to buy it but instead recommend that you buy the WHOLE series instead because you will get hooked on this series so fast.

There is so much action and stuff you wouldn't believe what happened! I would recommend this book for older kids though not 8 year olds cause there is some detailed parts but other then that you have to read this book and it's serie
