Turner’s emotionally infused writing brings this story to life in a big way. She takes you back to old California, showing you a different side of the story. I loved how Turner brings you completely into her world, painting a picture in front of your eyes. The unique yet heartfelt storyline had me hooked while the characters actions and reactions were spot on, making it impossible to put this story down. Mae had me in stitches. The contrast between what she things and what she says is priceless. The novella contributes a great deal to the main story, tying up some loose ends as to what happened to the Sherriff. It was fantastic to see who he really is, rather than simply as a secondary character. Together, these two bring this novella to life, making you feel like you’re sitting with old friends. As a whole, this was a fantastic novella that truly adds to Turner’s Las Morena’s series. The way that she humanizes her characters makes them easy to relate to while the creative storyline had me hooked.
