Cancerul și mortalitatea tumorală nu sunt fenomene specifice societății moderne, totuși, bolile oncologice reprezintă prima cauză a deceselor pe plan mondial, cu toate că nu se cunoaște nici azi cauza și etiologia precisă a îmbolnăvirii (Lapis, 2001). Tabloul clinic și evoluția cancerului sunt procese extrem de complexe, avantajul indubitabil al acestei complexități fiind faptul că „ne reamintește mereu că pacienții cu cancer sunt și ei oameni” (Greer și Watson, 1985, 773). Boala canceroasă atacă mai întâi corpul fizic, dar, în momentul în care individul afectat ia cunoștință de acest fapt, se declanșează și atacul destructiv împotriva vieții psihice și sociale a acestuia (Komlósi, 2006a).Abordarea psiho-oncologică stipulează că, în evoluția și prognosticul bolilor tumorale de etiologie multifactorială, elementele psihosociale joacă un rol esențial, ele contribuind la persistența sau agravarea bolii cronice (Riskó și Túry, 2008). Cercetările psiho-oncologice reprezintă un tip de abordare modern și complex, cu o metodologie de mai bună calitate, dat fiind faptul că se studiază deopotrivă rolul și efectul factorilor biologici, psihologici, sociali, economici și spirituali.
About the author
Csaba L. Degi is researcher and associate professor at the Babes - Bolyai University, Faculty of Sociology and Social Work in Cluj Napoca, Romania. He holds bachelor`s and masters’ degrees in social work and a PhD in clinical psychology. Since 2001, he has been working with cancer patients, cancer survivors and oncology teams. Based on his relevant practical and research experiences in psycho-oncology he developed and coordinated several cancer-related research and psycho-social screening programs. His results are published in the most outstanding professional journals. He is the president of the Romanian Association for Services and Communication in Oncology.
