This is Michael Connelly pushing out a crime thriller that delivers on investigation, sex, danger, twists, turns, more twist, and even more turns! It truly is a MC powerhouse. Coming from the Harry Bosch series, this was a fantastic addition. This book delves into the concept of a serial killer who targets detectives and stages them as suicides... what a great premise. Going from HB to a reporter protagonist gives this book a different feel, authentic. Poor Jack was a sad character at times and it shines deep in his lack of self confidence. Rachel was a dry character, but likeable when she broke free from her FBI chains and was vulnerable with Jack. Two characters which played very well off each other. Dark, gritty, and atmospheric...This is a must-read that delivers on everything a great crime drama should. I am looking forward to the next two in the Jack McEvoy/Rachel Walling series. 4.25/5.

A great story the book reads as if you were physically present. As a reader I did feel a part of the scene but as an observer (as reporter) of the scene, knowing all parties connected to the death, I felt I could figure out what really happened at the his murder today. It was ,after all my brother who was murdered.

Yet again a page turner and proves that no matter what setting the 90's or current he can really write and keep the reader interested. Very good read. I would recommend.
