اللُّغة وسيلة تواصل بين أبناء المجتمع الإنساني يعبّرون من خلالها عن أغراضهم وغاياتهم، ولم تُحصر اللُّغة في إطارها التواصلي بوصفها أداة للتعبير عن مرامي المتكلّم في بيئته الإنسانية، بل تجاوزته إلى كلّ ما يحيط به، ولم تنحصر في ألفاظ تتكوّن من أصوات تصدر من حنجرة المتكلّم، وتنطلق إلى الفضاء الخارجي لتلاقي مستمعاً يعرف مداليل تلك الألفاظ، ويتجاوب معها.
اللُّغة إبداع الإنسان في هذا العالم الواسع، وهبها اللَّه له بما أودع فيه من مقومات عضويّة وفكريّة لإنتاج هذه الوسيلة. فكانت بذلك نتاجاً بشرياً ذات صفة اجتماعية لا تنحصر في المنطوق، بل تتعداه إلى بيئة أوسع، فكلّ ما يتفاهم به الإنسان يمكن أن يصدق عليه لُغة حتى لو كان على سبيل المجاز
