About this ebook

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

Everything starts somewhere. For elite military cop Jack Reacher, that somewhere was Carter Crossing, Mississippi, way back in 1997.
Ā
A lonely railroad track. A crime scene. A cover-up. A young woman is dead, and solid evidence points to a soldier at a nearby military base. But that soldier has powerful friends in Washington.
Ā
Reacher is ordered undercover to find out everything he can and then to vanish. But when he gets to Carter Crossing, Reacher meets local sheriff Elizabeth Deveraux, who has a thirst for justice and an appetite for secrets. Uncertain they can trust each other, they reluctantly join forces. Finding unexpected layers to the case, Reacher works to uncover the truth, while others try to bury it forever. The conspiracy threatens to shatter his faith in his missionā€”and turn him into a man to be feared.

Just finished reading the excerpt that was at the end of "The Enemy" and Already there are some mistakes! In "The Enemy" Reacher says: "Nothing on earth was going to get me into E-ring", but in "The Affair" he starts off in the E-ring when evading the 4 guards. Child has the "Rings" flipped from one book to the next, has it A--E in one, and E--A in the other. I'm sorry, but mistakes like that aggravate the h*ll out of me. Hopefully that will be fixed when he released the final version.

Having read all but one of the Reacher books, I like the rewind back to 1997 and the story leading up to his departure from the army. Its not the worst one but also definitely not the best. For long time fans worth the read.
